Deputies from leading political parties reached a consensus regarding significant changes in medical workers' salaries. At an extraordinary meeting of the Healthcare Committee, three legislative proposals were presented, aiming for a radical transformation of sector compensation.
The draft laws were submitted by parliamentary groups of "We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria", "Revival", coalition "GERB–SDS", BSP, and "There Is Such a People". All of them received significant support from committee members, which increases the chances of their final adoption.
During the discussion, representatives from the specialization initiative "Future in Bulgaria" actively participated, insisting on specific changes. Their key requirements include a minimum wage reaching 150% of the country's average salary, and fairer compensation for night shifts.
According to the preliminary schedule, if the draft law is approved in the plenary hall, its official adoption is expected by the end of July 2025. The planned entry into force is from January 1, 2026, which will provide sufficient time for institutional preparation.
Besides the overall salary increase, the document also provides for the introduction of additional compensation mechanisms. These include more transparent criteria for specialization competitions and targeted financial incentives for young medical professionals.
