Sofia's chief architect, Bogdana Panayotova, resigned, announcing the reasons for her decision. She accuses the lack of political support, the unlawful structure of Sofia Municipality (SM), and the systematic ignoring of expert arguments.
Panayotova rejects false claims from the SM and emphasizes that she does not accept political responsibility to be transferred onto the expert position. She points out that she refuses to legitimize a management in which the position of chief architect is rendered meaningless.
In her position, Panayotova notes administrative chaos and the avoidance of decisions in urban planning. She adds that with her resignation she gives the opportunity for a new competition and the legitimate fulfillment of the position with another chief architect.
Panayotova emphasizes that she worked for a cause, not for personal gain, and refuses to legitimize institutional pressure and the replacement of professionalism with procedures.
