Orange code for dangerous weather in Bulgaria
An orange code for intense and significant rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and hail, has been issued for today in eight districts in the eastern part of the country. The warning was issued by the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH).
Dangerous weather: The districts of Dobrich, Silistra, Razgrad, Targovishte, Shumen, Varna, Burgas, and Yambol are under heightened monitoring.
In the rest of the country, a yellow code for rain and thunderstorms is in effect. Cumulonimbus cloud development is expected, with the phenomena moving from northwest to southeast.
Consequences of the natural disaster
The storms have already caused serious damage in the country:
- In the Yambol region: fallen trees, flooded streets, and power outages.
- In Southwestern Bulgaria: the BG-Alert system was activated due to fires and landslides.
- In Plovdiv: over 40 cars were crushed by fallen trees due to hurricane-force winds.
Maximum temperatures today will vary between 25° and 30°, and in Sofia, they will reach around 24°.
