At around 7:00 this morning, officers from the "Criminal Police" and "Economic Police" departments at the Burgas Regional Directorate of the MVR and Pomorie District Administration conducted a specialized operation against vote buying.
Inspections were carried out in a grocery store and an adjacent family hotel in Pomorie, operated by a person who is suspected to have offered property benefits to city residents with the aim of persuading them to exercise their voting rights in favor of a certain candidate or political force.
During inspections, 20,000 euros were found in a metal cash box, consisting of banknotes of 50 and 100 euros each. An additional 1,715 euros were discovered in the office adjacent to the commercial premises, distributed among several stacks of banknotes with denominations ranging from 5 to 100 euros. Agitation materials related to a specific political party were also found on site.
The operator of the establishment was detained for up to 24 hours. A prompt investigation has been initiated in connection with this case.
BTA recalls that on March 27 this year, eight individuals were detained during Operation "Bought Vote" in Karnobat. At that time, over 13,000 euros, lists and narcotics were discovered. Two days earlier, six other men were detained during a specialized police operation against crimes related to citizens' political rights, conventional crime and drug distribution, carried out on the territory of the Fourth District Administration - Burgas. At that time, lists with names suspected to be linked to upcoming elections were found and seized, along with labeled envelopes containing 50 euros each; at one address, a sum of 7,000 euros was discovered.
On March 17, ten individuals were detained in the Komluka district of Burgas. Notebooks containing names and addresses were found and seized, while a drug laboratory was also discovered during the operation.
