Heavy lorries cannot use the Hemus motorway this weekend either, because the Topli Dol tunnel is being repaired. Today, 30 October, the ban towards Varna runs from 3pm to 9pm.
Lorries heading to Vratsa, Montana and Vidin must take the Petrohan pass.
On Sunday the ban applies towards Sofia, from 2pm to 9pm. Lorries going to the capital will also be sent via Petrohan.
On Monday morning, heavy lorries will be stopped in both directions to ease traffic for cars.
Police will start their "Winter" campaign in early November. Before the weather worsens, traffic police will check more often how drivers behave and what condition their cars are in.
From 15 November, cars must have winter tyres or tread at least 4mm deep.
