The National Assembly has established a commission that will audit the annual financial reports of the National Audit Office for the period 2022, 2023 and 2024. The decision to form this key structure was made to comply with the legal requirement, according to which the annual financial reports of the National Audit Office are subject to audit by an independent commission. Its composition and size are determined by the parliament.
The presence of journalists and experts in the corridors of the parliament caused noticeable tension. Obviously, every detail of the vote was of crucial importance.
The composition of the newly formed commission is of eleven members, which guarantees representation from all parliamentary groups. In addition, two registered auditors are also included in the commission, which should guarantee the professional conduct of the process.
The chairman of the commission is Martin Dimitrov from the political group "We Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria". Among the members are: Stanislav Ivanov from GERB-SDS, Dimo Drenchev from "Revival", Elvan Gyurkash from "DPS - New Beginning", Atanas Atanasov from "BSP - United Left", Mehmed Salim from "Alliance for Rights and Freedoms", Snezhanka Trayanska from "There Is Such a People", Krasimir Manov from "Morality, Unity, Honor" and Maria Ilieva from "Greatness", as well as two registered auditors - Asen Kitov and Marian Nikolov.
The commission has the task of preparing a detailed report. This report, together with the reports on the activities of the National Audit Office for the specified period - 2022, 2023 and 2024, must be submitted to the National Assembly within three months from the date of commencement of the commission's work. The audit work is yet to begin, but public interest in it is huge.
