The lecturer at the event will be Antonia Messerjieva from the "Demeter" Association.
The famous world program Stand Up against street harassment will be launched for the first time in Bulgaria, in partnership with L’Oréal Paris and the "Demeter" Association. By joining forces, they are committed to empowering individuals through raising awareness and specific ways to counter harassment and create a safer and more comfortable environment for all, especially for women in public spaces throughout Bulgaria.
In order to include as many people as possible in the fight against street harassment and contribute to the creation of safer public spaces, the partners also launched a special website. The site contains free training for prevention and counteraction in the event of street violence, accessible to anyone who wishes to be informed and become an active part of this important initiative.
Worldwide, 80% of women have been victims of street harassment, and 85% of people say they don't know how to intervene when they witness such behavior. This Stand Up program is focused on raising awareness of this global problem and empowering people to react safely when they experience or witness it, based on the 5D methodology developed by Right To Be, an international non-governmental organization and expert in the fight against all forms of harassment. The 5D methodology of Right To Be consists of five easy and effective techniques that help people to intervene safely when they witness street harassment or experience it themselves. To date, over 2.3 million people have been trained through Stand Up in 45 countries.
