Vratsa Municipality will light up its building in green to show support for World Lymphoma Awareness Day. This initiative is part of a large-scale campaign in which public buildings across the country will shine in red today – a symbol of the fight against hemato-oncological diseases – or in green, representing the color of the fight against lymphoma. The Bulgarian Lymphoma Association, "Lymphom," specified that this also marks the 20th anniversary of the organization, which is dedicated to the care and support of people suffering from blood cancer.
Municipalities across the country have been called upon to illuminate important public facilities and key buildings. The campaign is being carried out with the assistance of the National Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria.
The fight against malignant blood diseases, such as lymphoma and leukemia, is an immense challenge, as blood cancer ranks fifth in global prevalence. The association's data is alarming: every 35 seconds, one person receives this severe diagnosis, and in Bulgaria, the total number of registered patients is around 6000, with over 1500 new cases being identified every year. One of the main challenges is that lymphomas are difficult to diagnose – their symptoms often resemble the flu or another inflammatory condition, which leads to a delay of about one year in establishing the correct diagnosis.
To celebrate the two decades of the Bulgarian Lymphoma Association, "Lymphom," the Sofia Municipality and "Metropolitan" EAD will broadcast a short video clip on the screens of Sofia metro stations throughout September. Additionally, support is available on social media through the organization's specialized groups for people with lymphomas and for patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Mutual aid meetings are also organized there, where psychologists or social workers assist people who have already completed treatment in sharing their experience with newly diagnosed patients.
This national awareness campaign is also important for the residents of Burgas and the region in the context of the fight against oncological diseases.
An important date for the community is October 17 and 18, 2026, when a meeting for doctors, patients, and their loved ones will be held in Sofia. The organization noted that during this event, awards will be presented to a doctor to whom patients have expressed the greatest gratitude, as well as to a volunteer who has helped the greatest number of people over the past year.
