Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova assured that there is no problem with the supply of euro banknotes and coins for banks and Bulgarian Post, as well as for traders. Petkova answered a question from Member of Parliament Stoyan Taslakov from the parliamentary group of “Vazrazhdane“ on the topic of measures that will guarantee the activity of companies after Bulgaria's adoption of the euro on January 1, 2026, given their obligation to give change and operate in euros.

According to the Law on the Introduction of the Euro in the Republic of Bulgaria, credit institutions are obliged to organize the supply of traders and Bulgarian Post with euro banknotes, coins and starter kits with euro coins by the date of the introduction of the euro. The Bulgarian National Bank is responsible for compliance with these requirements.

The exchange of leva into euros by Bulgarian Post will be carried out only in settlements where there is no representation of a credit institution.

Petkova stressed that the process is moving within the defined deadlines and rules. The coordination of the preparation is managed by a Coordination Council chaired by the Minister of Finance, to which 7 expert working groups are working.

It is recalled that the BNB presented the design of the Bulgarian euro coins in a video, and the starter packages will be sold from December 1 this year.

The central bank and Bulgarian Post will sell starter kits to individuals. Banks will sell starter kits to traders and individuals. The price of a starter kit is 20 leva for individuals and 200 leva for legal entities.
