Burgas Mayor Dimitar Nikolov and the Rector of the University of Mining and Geology "St. Ivan Rilski" signed an agreement to open a branch in Burgas. Students are expected to begin studying in specialties such as "Gas, Fuel, and Purification Equipment and Technologies" and "Drilling, Extraction and Transportation of Oil and Gas" during the academic year 2026/2027.

The new specialties will be unique for Burgas, with the aim of preparing specialists for the needs of the energy and industrial sector. It is planned to open the specialty "Underground Construction" during the second academic year.

The branch will partner with "Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov" University and is considering joint master's programs. Support comes from the Ministry of Education and Science, as well as from the Ministry of Energy. The teaching base will be in the modern student campus, and Burgas Municipality will provide scholarships for students.

Rector Prof. Koprev emphasized that the opening of the branch is significant for the creation of an educational center in Eastern Bulgaria. On March 13th, a review of higher education will be held in Burgas, where the university will present the specialties in detail.
