Bulgarian Independence: Zafirov Calls for National Unity

Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Zafirov called for national unity on the occasion of the 117th anniversary of the declaration of Bulgarian independence. He emphasized the importance of preserving the memory of national heroes and overcoming current challenges through unity and a national ideal.

Today, on the eve of the 117th anniversary of the declaration of Bulgaria"s Independence, the Vice Prime Minister and chairman of the "BSP " United Left", Atanas Zafirov, delivered a message filled with patriotism and a call for national unity. "Let this day remind us that freedom and independence are not a given, but a responsibility", Zafirov emphasized in an official congratulatory message distributed by the BSP press center.

His words seemed to resonate in the solemn atmosphere of Veliko Tarnovo, the center of today"s celebrations.

Zafirov pointed to the memorable September 22 as a date that marked a key moment in Bulgarian history. "On the memorable September 22, 117 years ago, Bulgaria broke free from the web of political dependencies and officially, and universally recognized, began to determine its own internal and external policy", he stated, emphasizing the importance of this state act.

According to him, the declaration of Independence is the most significant event in our recent history, a logical culmination of the Unification and all the struggles for national liberation. Without Independence, "the self-sacrifice of the thousands who left their bones in the pantheon of the motherland would have been in vain", Zafirov was categorical.

In his message, Zafirov stressed the need to preserve the memory of national heroes and to learn lessons from history. "Our effort today is to preserve the memory of the national heroes, to understand the lessons of history and to carry in our hearts the same ideal of unity. This is our duty " to build a state that is an equal member in the family of civilized nations", he added.
