Crisis with illegal construction near Varna
At today's session of the Varna Municipal Council, the focus will be on the scandalous case of large-scale illegal construction in the "Baba Aleno" area. The Chairman of the local parliament, Hristo Dimitrov, has requested that Mayor Blagomir Kotsev provide a detailed report and action plan regarding the illegal structures.
The case raises serious questions regarding the control of construction activity in the region and the lack of regulations.
What we know so far?
- Scale of the violation: 104 houses and apartment buildings have been built on a plot of about 100 decares.
- Lack of documentation: Not a single building permit has been issued by the Municipality for any of the properties.
- Investor: The construction is being carried out by a Ukrainian company.
Ministers and experts have already held an emergency meeting to establish the chronology of events and the reasons that led to such large-scale unregulated construction. The Municipality of Varna has already taken initial steps by officially halting construction activities at the site, but it remains to be seen what the next measures will be to deal with the buildings already constructed.
