Veselin Tomov has become Nessebar's first-ever spearfishing champion, after winning the prestigious "Bulgaria Cup" for 2026. After a strong season, he took the title with a clear lead of more than 100 points over his rivals.
The individual championship ran across nine competitions, with athletes from 14 sports clubs taking part. Events were held along the whole Black Sea coast — from Shabla to Rezovo — between 13 June and 12 September 2026. Tomov took two wins, three second-place finishes and several top-five results in one of the longest competition seasons so far.
The Nessebar athlete competes for the Varna spearfishing club "Vatus Pro". With the club, he also took second place in this year's national team championship, held in Tsarevo.
Tomov's success reaches beyond Bulgaria too. As a member of the Bulgarian national spearfishing team, he will represent the country at this year's Euro-African Championship in Montenegro. His latest achievement is a source of pride for the whole town and further proof of Nessebar's strong tradition in sea sports.
