Today, Nessebar commemorated the 178th anniversary of the birth of the great poet and revolutionary Hristo Botev. Flowers and wreaths were laid at the monument of the national hero opposite Lyuben Karavelov Secondary School as a sign of reverence for the life and work of one of Bulgaria’s most significant figures.
Hristo Botev was a poet, journalist, and fighter for national liberation during the Bulgarian National Revival. He is regarded as a symbol and ideal in Bulgarian history and culture, embodying patriotism, freedom, and self-sacrifice. His life and work are an example of uncompromising honesty, courage, and devotion to the homeland, where the ideal of freedom stands above personal life, and immortality is achieved through deeds in the name of the people.
His immortal words still touch us today with their wisdom and relevance: “The sacred struggle for our freedom lies in the strength of our own arms.” “…Know that he who does not love his parents, his wife, and his children does not love his homeland!…” “Just as the eye is necessary for light, the ear for sound, and the mind for understanding even the simplest truths, so too science, education, and development are necessary for any people to reach a certain level of well-being…” “Only the one who is free, only he can be called a human being in the full sense of the word.” “He who falls in battle for freedom does not die…”
