The Nephrology department of UMBAL Burgas ranks first in the number of patients treated in 2025 among all departments of the hospital. Almost 1700 people have chosen treatment here, although there are similar structures in four other municipalities in the region. Unlike them, the Nephrology department of UMBAL Burgas has the highest – third level of competence and works according to all clinical pathways.

“We accept many patients who also suffer from other diseases and need complex treatment. Cases of acute and chronic renal failure have increased, we treat many glomerulonephritis,” shared the head of the department, Dr. Zlatina Mirincheva. She added that patients with complications due to the use of contrast agents also come here. There are also many emergency cases of acute renal colic.

Following the Nephrology department, the Clinic of Vascular Surgery, the Department of Nervous Diseases, the Second Pediatric Department, and the Department of Cardiology are in the top five in terms of the number of patients treated. The data shows the wide range of highly specialized medical care that UMBAL Burgas provides to patients from Burgas and the region.

The number of all people who have sought help here remains at the levels of the previous year – over 26,000 people. This confirms the position of the medical institution as the most preferred, despite the presence and active activity of other hospitals. The steady patient flow is a clear sign of the trust that people continue to give to the teams.

UMBAL Burgas remains the only hospital in Southeastern Bulgaria that provides around-the-clock medical assistance in over 30 specialties. The data provided does not include patients examined in the Emergency Department without the need for hospitalization.

The busiest months of the past year were January, March, and July, with an average of about 2,700 patients admitted to the hospital each month. This reflects both seasonal peaks in morbidity and tourist flow, as well as the constant need for timely and quality hospital care.

The months of March and July have been record-breaking in terms of the number of patients admitted in previous years, because in March the hospital treats complications from influenza and viral infections, and during the summer months the population of Burgas increases tenfold due to the tourist season.
