The Council of Ministers published an official analysis of the National Stray Dog Control Program, which reveals significant statistical data for 2024. According to the document, a total of 17,603 dogs were captured in the country, with an impressive 3,778 animals - approximately 22% of them - managing to find new families.

The detailed study shows a consistent decline in the number of stray animals. Comparative data reveals a 10% decrease compared to 2023, when 19,495 dogs were captured, and a full 12% less compared to 2022, when the figure amounted to 20,046 animals.

The regional analysis highlights leading municipalities in the adoption process. Cities such as Burgas, Varna, Veliko Tarnovo, Gabrovo, Pernik, Sofia, and Ruse demonstrate exceptional effectiveness in caring for stray animals.

Experts recommend a series of sustainable measures, including mandatory microchipping, sterilization, precise registration, and active encouragement of adoption through local shelters. The document emphasizes the need for a long-term and humane approach to the stray animal population.

The government extends a specific invitation to local authorities to continue their targeted efforts, while also calling on citizens to be more active in adopting and caring for homeless four-legged companions.
