Citizens have submitted a total of 1,760 reports regarding suspected irregularities using the "eZdrave" mobile application within a single month. The option to file complaints online for unauthorized activities was officially launched by Information Services – a company within the system of the Ministry of Innovation and Growth (MIG) – on August 1st of this year.
In response to the data received, the control bodies of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) have initiated 560 inspections, which are currently being processed. According to information from the MIG press center, the highest volume of reports was registered regarding examinations performed, referrals issued, and hospitalizations in medical facilities within the territory of Sofia, Varna, Plovdiv, and Burgas.
The functionality, known as the "Public Control" module, allows users of the "eZdrave" platform to report irregularities in real time. Within their personal profile, every citizen has visibility over their recorded activity, including:
- type of service performed;
- document number;
- attending physician;
- date of the examination;
- primary and secondary diagnoses.
If a user does not recognize the listed activity, they can file a report with just two taps in the application. Once they enter a phone number and email for contact, the report is automatically registered and distributed to the relevant regulatory bodies – the Regional Health Inspectorates (RHI), the Regional Health Insurance Funds (RHIF), or the Executive Agency for Medical Oversight. The results of the inspections are sent back to citizens via a specialized system within the application itself. The MIG emphasizes that they view "eZdrave" as part of a broader policy aimed at ensuring state digital platforms not only serve citizens but also provide them with transparent and verifiable information on how public funds for their treatment are spent.
MIG statistics indicate that active users of the mobile application have reached 450,000, with an additional 250,000 profiles linked to them. The system records 1,100 new users daily. The Information Services team continues to constantly upgrade the application, with plans to introduce a dental module and a "Financial Profile" module in October 2026, which will provide details regarding NHIF costs for every medical service provided.
BTA recalls that the "eZdrave" mobile application itself, which provides access to all electronic health services, was officially presented at the end of September 2022 by Information Services and the Ministry of Health. In addition, during the summer of this year, the RHI and RHIF conducted a large-scale information campaign across the country to promote the application and encourage citizens to use it actively.
