Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova rejected the claims of "Vazrazhdane" leader Kostadin Kostadinov that she was directly appointed as Bulgarian Foreign Minister by the English intelligence services.
"Velislava Petrova has never had a former husband, therefore the claim regarding the existence of such a person and the ties attributed to him with the British intelligence services is factually false. Also categorically false and without any factual basis is the claim that Minister Petrova was 'directly appointed by the English intelligence services'," the MFA pointed out.
"Such claims are false, are not based on facts, and create misleading impressions for the public," stated the right of reply sent to bTV television.
Kostadinov commented to the television that "there must be an investigation for high treason, because the rumors that the Foreign Minister was directly appointed by the English intelligence services are already so public that they are being discussed as something quite obvious."
The leader of "Vazrazhdane" also commented on Bulgaria's decision to authorize the US to deploy up to 8 tanker aircraft and up to 250 personnel at the "Bezmer" military airbase.
"The best thing we could have done is to hold a referendum. You know that the former president was at one time a fan of referendums, so that we could see whether the Bulgarian people sympathize with the aggressive war of the USA or sympathize with Iran's struggle for survival," Kostadinov noted to bTV.
