The US Geological Survey reported a series of powerful seismic tremors that shook the Russian Far East coast and raised international concern about a potential tsunami.

The initial earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7 was recorded by the German Research Center for Geosciences in the morning hours of July 20, 2025. Its epicenter was located at a depth of about 10 kilometers off the eastern coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula.

Shortly after, a second, even stronger tremor with a magnitude of 7.4 followed, further intensifying fears of possible destruction. According to official data, the more powerful earthquake was located at a depth of 20 kilometers, 144 kilometers east of the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky - a settlement with approximately 180,000 inhabitants.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center immediately issued a warning about a potential threat of huge waves in the region. International geological experts immediately began analyzing seismic activity and possible consequences.

At the time of the initial reports, there was no information about human casualties or significant material damage. Local authorities in Kamchatka took preventive security measures and evacuation of endangered coastal areas.

The Geological Survey emphasized the exceptional complexity of the seismic situation in the Pacific Ring of Fire, where such earthquakes are not uncommon, but always carry a potential risk of serious natural disasters.

Experts recommended full compliance with local authorities' instructions and increased vigilance from the population in endangered areas until the final lifting of the tsunami danger.
