A man has been found dead in the Vitosha area, with initial reports suggesting a possible attack by a wild animal, although this theory has not been definitively confirmed yet.
The report and location of the incident
According to initial data, the tragic incident occurred on the concrete road above the "Ofeliite" hut, in the area of the "Vitosha" Nature Park.
It later became clear that the theory of a bear attack cannot be confirmed unambiguously at this stage and remains the subject of an investigation.
The Metropolitan Directorate of the Interior confirmed that a body was found near the "Rudnichar" hut.
The discovered body and initial observations
According to information from the scene, the body is that of a man dressed in hiking attire, with good mountain gear.
Part of his face is heavily disfigured, which has fueled suspicions of an animal attack.
Witnesses say that after being attacked, the man tried to defend himself with a stick.
Theories for the cause: bear or dogs
The Mountain Rescue Service commented that it is possible the deceased was attacked by a bear or large dogs that inhabit the area.
However, they emphasize that they are not officially involved in the case and cannot provide a final conclusion.
At the moment, there is no confirmation of whether this was an attack by a wild animal, an incident of a different nature, or a combination of factors – a final answer is expected after the expert reports are completed.
Actions by the services and next steps
A report about the incident was made to the 112 emergency line, after which an ambulance team and a police patrol from the 6th District Police Department were sent to the scene.
Police teams are working in the area, conducting an inspection and gathering evidence.
Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in the case, which must establish the exact circumstances surrounding the man's death, as well as whether a wild animal or other factors were involved in the incident.
As the investigation continues, authorities are urging hikers to be particularly careful during mountain outings, to stay on marked trails, and to report any unusual situations or traces of wild animals.
