Strict safety measures in Bulgarian ports
The Minister of Transport and Communications, Georgi Peev, has sent an official letter to all port operators in Bulgaria with explicit instructions to restrict overloaded heavy-duty vehicles. The decision comes as a reaction to a series of road accidents caused by trucks leaving port terminals with cargo exceeding the maximum permissible mass.
Road safety is a national priority, and the active cooperation of all participants is key to improving the situation on the roads.
Responsibilities and control
- Shippers: Under the Road Transport Act, they bear primary responsibility for compliance with weight limits.
- Port operators: Must establish an organization to prevent overloaded vehicles from entering the road network.
- Sanctions: Upon identification of violations, operators are required to notify the Executive Agency "Road Transport Administration" for the imposition of administrative penalties.
These measures were discussed during a meeting with representatives of the public and private sectors, where the focus was also on the role of ports in the development of the strategic "Middle Corridor".
