Educational authorities are preparing a large-scale reform in curriculum that provides for the introduction of a new interdisciplinary course "Religion and Virtues". The initiative, officially announced on March 7, 2025, aims to rethink spiritual education in the national education system.
The concept includes a two-component model: the first focused on religious culture and historical aspects of religions, the second directed towards building moral values and civic competencies. A key principle is voluntariness - parents will have the right to choose between confessional and neutral program options.
The launch of the subject is initially planned for first grade, with gradual expansion to higher educational levels. The main goal is to restore the traditional spiritual connection in society through a modern and tolerant approach to religious education.
