Minister of Culture Evtim Miloshev stated that the "Boyana" Film Center represents an opportunity for state policies in the field of film production.
During the BNT program "The Day Begins," hosted by Georgi Lyubenov, the Minister expanded on the topic, noting that his primary focus is on financial incentives for film production, team training, and the development of cinematographic infrastructure. According to him, the goal is for Bulgaria to become a destination for international productions, which is part of the state policy.
Regarding the protest in front of the Ministry of Culture on September 17, Evtim Miloshev expressed skepticism, pointing out that it is driven primarily by political, commercial, and financial interests. He explained that the protest was organized by only four people, only one of whom has any connection to film production, while the other three have nothing to do with the subject. "When four people claim to be filmmakers, it means that either there is no cinema, or there is something rotten in the whole system," he added.
During the protest, speaking to journalists, Gabriel Georgiev, chairman of the "Alliance of Independent Producers," called on the Minister to act as a defender of the national interest. He urged the Ministry of Culture to make clear commitments that lead to concrete results for the benefit of society. Representatives of the film community announced that they have submitted a petition in support of the film center.
The Minister, who has known the industry for 35 years and remembers the privatization process of the site, reminded that the "Boyana" Film Center is a private commercial company. The acquisition process took place 20 years ago, when the center started with 300 decares. At that time, an additional 580 decares were set aside so that the state would have an option to build its own film infrastructure if necessary. Over these two decades, "Boyana" has not lost a single part of its property.
Evtim Miloshev clarified that the Public Enterprise and Control Agency has imposed a new ten-year mortgage on the Film Center, which he described as "over-insurance," but explained that this is the nature of the privatization contract. The deadline for the last reporting period is the summer of 2027. "I am not a lawyer for the "Boyana" Film Center. I am the Minister of Culture, and when the topic is raised in this manner, I do not accept it," the Minister stated.
