A working group will assess the condition of guardrails
Regional Minister Ivan Shishkov stated that the state is taking urgent measures to improve road safety. A specialized working group will be formed to provide an expert assessment of the condition of guardrails across the national road network.
"Political rhetoric does not help road safety. Expert solutions are needed, not declarations," the minister asserted.
Minister Shishkov expressed serious doubts regarding the effectiveness of the ordinance adopted in 2024. According to him, there is a possibility of lobbying interests, which will be subject to investigation.
Corruption schemes and missing asphalt
A key focus of the statement was the role of the prosecutor's office in uncovering abuses. The minister posed several key questions to the investigative authorities:
- What is happening with lots 4, 5, and 6 of the Hemus Motorway?
- Who signed the contracts for 35% advance payments for road projects?
- Where has the material (asphalt) for which the state has paid disappeared?
According to Shishkov, the prosecutor's office must protect the interests of Bulgarian citizens, not oligarchic circles, and clarify the distribution of huge state funds for road construction.
