Minister Georg Georgiev took part in the annual meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), which was held in Vienna under the chairmanship of Finland.

In the year in which the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the Helsinki Final Act is celebrated, containing the fundamental principles of the European security architecture, the discussions were once again marked by the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine and its destructive consequences for the security of Europe and the organization itself.

In his speech at the plenary session, Minister Georgiev emphasized that as a result of the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine, Europe is facing one of the most insecure periods in decades.

Our first diplomat confirmed Bulgaria's strong support for the Ukrainian side and welcomed the efforts of the United States to achieve a just and sustainable peace, based on international law, in coordination with Ukraine and its European partners.

In the context of the discussion started earlier in the year on modernizing and improving the functionality of the OSCE, Minister Georgiev pointed out that the goal of the efforts should be related to preserving its fundamental role as a forum for dialogue, conflict prevention and seeking accountability for the violation of the Helsinki principles.

On the eve of the meeting, Minister Georgiev took part in an informal dinner with the participation of Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha, dedicated to solidarity and support for Ukraine, and to the possibilities for strengthening OSCE assistance, including for the future restoration and building of resilience of Ukraine in the post-war period.
