Official representatives of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced fundamental changes in the procedure for determining vulnerability among asylum seekers on the territory of Bulgaria. The new methodological framework, presented on June 27, 2025, aims to refine the criteria for financial support.
The developed standards provide for detailed mapping of the most socially vulnerable groups - unaccompanied minors, single parents with young children, elderly individuals, and persons with physical or mental limitations. The strategic goal of the approach is the most targeted distribution of available resources.
The key focus of the transformation consists of minimizing potential gaps and preventing possible abuses in the humanitarian assistance system. The innovative criteria are part of a large-scale program of the organization to increase efficiency in supporting the refugee community in Bulgaria.
