The prestigious international documentary festival Sofia DocuMental will launch its first edition on July 30, 2025. This innovative cultural event will offer a large-scale platform for exploring contemporary social challenges through the power of documentary cinema.

The organizers have planned a two-channel format that includes a simultaneous in-person program in Sofia and a parallel online transmission. This approach aims to maximize access to film content and attract a diverse audience from across the country.

The central thematic line of the festival is dedicated to the multilayered aspects of human rights. The selected documentary works will present different perspectives and in-depth stories about social, political, and personal dimensions of individual rights in the modern world.

The program promises to offer a rich and diverse view of global and local challenges, emphasizing the telling of authentic human stories. Viewers will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in documentary narratives that reveal little-known social contexts and personal experiences.

Access to the festival will be provided both through physical screenings at selected Sofia locations and through an online platform that will allow viewers from across the country to participate in this large-scale cultural event.

Sofia DocuMental establishes itself as a significant international cultural event that does not simply present films, but creates a space for deep public dialogue and critical reflection on contemporary social reality.
