Fuel oil spill on the Southern Black Sea coast
Dozens of reports regarding the presence of fuel oil on the beaches of the Southern Black Sea coast have been submitted to RIEW-Burgas. The pollution was detected in the area between Sozopol and Tsarevo, with 21 reports received by the inspectorate in just 24 hours.
Experts from RIEW and the Black Sea Basin Directorate have already carried out on-site inspections to determine the scale of the environmental incident.
Actions taken:
- Urgent instructions have been issued to concessionaires and municipalities for the immediate cleaning of the affected areas.
- Reports have been sent to the Maritime Administration to identify the source of the pollution.
- RIEW-Burgas will carry out follow-up inspections to monitor the completion of the cleaning.
The situation remains under observation, with the goal of restoring the beaches for visitors as quickly as possible.
