A man who was illegally catching white sand clams has been apprehended in the "Elenite" resort area, the Executive Agency for Fisheries and Aquaculture (EAFA) confirmed to BTA. The violator was detained on Sunday, around 4:50 PM, by officers from the Border Police in cooperation with control authorities of the EAFA in the Black Sea waters near the Black Sea resort.

The violator was brought to the marina in Sveti Vlas. Around 150 kg of white sand clams were found in the boat, placed in six mesh bags, as well as a manual dredging device. The vessel had no number or external markings. The dredging device was seized and handed over for destruction, and the caught clams were returned to the water.

An act was drawn up against the owner of the vessel for violating the provisions of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Act.

The EAFA reminds that the control for catching white clams is extremely increased. The EAFA conducts regular joint inspections with the Border Police along the Black Sea coast with the aim of limiting poaching and protecting marine biological resources.
