A large-scale operation to intercept illegal imports of counterfeit commercial goods was recently conducted by Bulgarian border authorities. During three consecutive checks, a total of 29,735 articles with unauthorized trade marks, which were being transported in transit through Bulgaria, were seized.

The first incident occurred on 07.07.2025 at the Lesovo Border Checkpoint, when a cargo vehicle with a Ukrainian driver was subjected to a thorough inspection. The officially declared cargo from Turkey to Ukraine was hiding 11,090 car accessories and 6,600 perfume packages with improperly used trade marks.

In parallel, the same day another cargo truck, driven by a Turkish citizen and traveling from Turkey to France, was stopped for inspection. Inspectors discovered 6,410 sports kits and t-shirts with unauthorized luxury logos.

A third consecutive check on 08.07.2025 revealed an additional 5,635 clothing items with foreign trade marks in a transport vehicle following a route from Turkey to Hungary.

All seized goods are in violation of Regulation (EU) No. 608/2013 on the protection of intellectual property. The respective trade mark holders will be officially notified of the incidents.

Statistics show a serious scale of such attempts - only since the beginning of the year, over 100,000 articles with violated intellectual property rights have been prevented at the Lesovo Border Checkpoint.
