The Parliamentary Committee on Labor and Social Policy failed to hold a meeting due to a lack of quorum, BTA reported.
The agenda included the draft Law on the Budget of the State Social Security (SSS) and the Law on the State Budget of the Republic of Bulgaria for 2026, submitted by the Council of Ministers.
The chairperson of the committee, Denitsa Sacheva (GERB-SDS), explained that some MPs had stated they would not register, while others were absent due to commitments. Sacheva pointed out that at the same time, the Budget and Finance Committee was also holding a meeting, which is the leading committee for the draft Law on the SSS budget and the Law on the State Budget, as well as for the draft budget of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) for 2026.
Sacheva emphasized that the lack of a quorum does not jeopardize the SSS draft budget.
Representatives of GERB-SDS, "BSP-United Left", "There Is Such a People" and "Alliance for Rights and Freedoms" registered to participate in the meeting. Representatives of "DPS-New Beginning" informed that they were participating in rallies. Representatives of "Morality, Unity and Honor", "Velichie" and "We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria" were present in the hall, but they refused to register.
"The termination of the meeting does not prevent the procedure for considering the SSS budget in the plenary hall, where the debates and the final vote will take place, as the leading committee for considering the three budgets – of the SSS, NHIF, and the state budget - is the Budget and Finance Committee, which began its meeting, has a quorum and the debates are currently underway," Sacheva also commented.
The government submitted the three draft budgets for 2026 after approval at a meeting and discussion of the National Council for Tripartite Cooperation.
