Doctors from the University Hospital in Burgas performed a rare operation, removing a tumor the size of a melon and weighing 2 kilograms from the abdomen of a 60-year-old woman. The patient did not suspect its existence, believing she was gaining weight from food. The woman was admitted urgently with severe abdominal pain, and the scan showed a huge tumor formation in the small pelvis. The operation was immediate.
Dr. Borislav Penev from the Second Surgery Department at UMBAL-Burgas notes: “The striking case here was that the tumor formation was quite large. It was over 10 cm in diameter, around 20 cm. A very large ovarian cyst tumor.”
The patient had not visited a gynecologist for years. Dr. Penev explains that the woman thought she was gaining weight because of food, and the histological examination showed a benign result. Dr. Zlatko Kirovakov, head of the Department of Gynecology, shares that such tumor formations can grow expansively and usually occur without symptoms.
The patient was discharged in good condition. Doctors remind women of the importance of preventive examinations at least once a year.
