Two active fire hotspots have been registered above the village of Ploski in the Sandanski municipality, Ivan Rizov - head of the State Forestry Management (SFM) in Strumyani, told regional media.
The large-scale rescue operation involves over a hundred specialists from various agencies, including forest employees, firefighters, representatives of Pirin National Park, and military personnel. The experts are working in a coordinated manner to locate and extinguish the spreading fire sites.
According to official information, the team led by Rizov is focusing on manual terrain processing without the need for additional water supply. The Ilindentsi area is currently relatively calm, with deployed forces numbering fifteen forest employees and about ten firefighters.
Specialists note that the fire is spreading extremely slowly, with the main problem being the heavy smoke generated by burning low vegetation - mainly juniper and dry grass. High temperatures and wind create conditions for rapid internal fire renewal.
Immediate priorities include complete fire suppression and localization. After the rescue operation is completed, a detailed inventory and measurement of the burned territory will be carried out.
The forestry management declares full mobilization and readiness to prevent the spread of the disaster, working with maximum coordination and professionalism.
