The fire front near the village of Ilindentsi in the Pirin Mountain was partially localized, but not without serious challenges. Experts report a fire expansion of about 50 decares of new affected areas, with a high risk of further spread.
According to official information from Commissioner Valentin Vasilev, head of the fire service in Blagoevgrad, the new fire outbreak likely occurred due to jumping over pre-prepared fire breaks. Currently, more than 150 people are working on the ground - firefighters, forestry workers, military personnel, and volunteers.
Rescue teams are making maximum efforts to expand protective strips to limit the fire. Aviation equipment is also on standby and is expected to be involved in the operation to extinguish the disaster.
