This year's festive table looks more expensive than last year's. The amount a four-member family needs to set aside for Christmas Eve and Christmas is between 210-220 BGN, according to economists from the ISSIO at the KNSB.
For Christmas Eve, lean dishes are needed, such as beans, a pita bread with a coin, stuffed peppers, sarma, oshav (stewed dried fruits), salad, and pumpkin pie. The cost for this evening is around 85-90 BGN, with the prices of dried fruits and nuts having an impact.
For the Christmas table, between 125-130 BGN is expected, with meat (pork) being the main product, averaging 22 BGN/kg. The menu includes potatoes, rice, pie, salad, and wine.
The KNSB monitors prices in the context of Bulgaria's entry into the Eurozone. Observations show that prices in small retail outlets are lower than those in large ones, and the difference between wholesale and retail prices is significant. The KNSB calls for active actions from the CPC (Commission for Protection of Consumers) to protect consumers.
