Traditionally, the Christmas tree in Chernomorets was lit on the eve of the city's big holiday, St. Nicholas Day. The celebrations began with the opening of an exhibition of local artists. The concert of talents from the "Dimo Nikolov" community center and other artistic groups lasted nearly two hours. Children showed mastery in music and dance in front of their parents, friends, and neighbors.

All residents of Chernomorets gathered in the square to see the Christmas lights shine. The children counted down from 10 to 0 under the guidance of Mayor Rosen Despov, and the large tree in the square lit up festively. The people of Chernomorets did not betray another tradition - to join hands in a horo (a traditional Bulgarian circle dance), in which both the citizens and the participants in the Christmas concert danced.

Tomorrow is a big day for Chernomorets. This is the only place where the "Locking of the Sea" ritual is held on St. Nicholas Day. It will be unlocked for fishing again on the summer St. Nicholas Day - May 9.
