The Mayor of Burgas Municipality, Dimitar Nikolov, inaugurated a new two-story school building at "Vasil Aprilov" Primary School, which will allow the school to transition to a single-shift teaching schedule. The event took place during the first school day of the 2026/2027 academic year.
The transition to a single-shift system is a priority for both the Burgas Municipality and the school leadership. "Smart children of Burgas, the first school day is always filled with great excitement, anticipation, a desire for new acquaintances, and, of course, the acquisition of much knowledge. But today's first school day at "Vasil Aprilov" Primary School is slightly different, as it is also marked by the introduction of the new school building and the start of the academic year in a single-shift mode—something that the Burgas Municipality and the school leadership have long desired. This is now a reality," emphasized Dimitar Nikolov.
According to the Mayor, the new facility will provide students with more free time for preparation and personal activities, while teachers will benefit from higher-quality conditions for planning the educational process. The new building is designed as a modern and accessible environment, including:
- 4 new classrooms with a total of 104 student places;
- a lecture hall with a capacity of 116 seats;
- facilities for two different age groups;
- an internal staircase and terraces;
- an elevator, ensuring access for people with reduced mobility.
The building also features a special multifunctional zone with four language learning corners, a relaxation space, a culture and arts zone, as well as areas for extracurricular activities and hobby-based pursuits. The investment in this facility is a step toward modernizing the school infrastructure in Burgas.
During the inauguration, Dimitar Nikolov expressed his gratitude to the Director of "Vasil Aprilov" Primary School, Ms. Stefanova, for her consistency and the efforts that were crucial to the realization of the project. "This would not have been possible without the efforts of one person—the director of this school, Ms. Stefanova. When there is such leadership and such a teaching staff, the results are bound to follow," the Mayor stated.
In his speech, the Mayor congratulated the new teachers joining the team this year, as well as the entire teaching staff for their professionalism, perseverance, and care for the children. He added: "I want to thank all the teachers for their perseverance, efforts, and love for the children and for their dedication to helping them be as successful as possible in life. I also thank all the parents who have chosen "Vasil Aprilov" Primary School for their children, because through your persistence, you raise the quality and significance of this school." To the students, he offered a wish to be consistent in their dreams and to make the most of the opportunities provided by modern education by listening to their teachers and parents.
The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the municipal administration and the school community, including:
- Deputy Mayor for Education, Healthcare, Social Activities, and Youth Policies, Mikhail Nenov;
- Director of the Municipal Directorate "Education," Katya Misheva;
- teachers, parents, and students.
