Varna Mayor Blagomir Kotsev: There will be no garbage crisis
Varna Mayor Blagomir Kotsev categorically denied concerns that the city will face a waste collection crisis after July 5. The topic became relevant after the contract with the current contractor expires and the selection of a new one is subject to appeal.
"We will not allow the city to remain uncleaned," stated Kotsev regarding the concerns of the municipal councilors.
Key points from the mayor's statement:
- Waste collection: Kotsev accused his political opponents of overexposing the topic for the purpose of destabilization. A special briefing is forthcoming, where the measures to prevent the crisis will be clarified.
- Repairs and asphalt paving: Regarding the case with the "KUB" corporation and the repaving of streets, the mayor pointed out that private donations are a normal practice and the origin of the funds will be clarified further.
- Hospital healthcare: The municipality has paid the funds owed to the AG Hospital and St. Anna Hospital. Kotsev called on the state to take responsibility for the recovery of St. Anna and to replace its management.
It is expected that next week the municipal administration will present a detailed action plan regarding the new cleanliness contract, which is estimated at 78 million euros excluding VAT.
