In Bulgaria, there will be no speculative price increases allowed as a result of the introduction of the euro, and the caretaker government and institutions will continue to make efforts to protect the citizens of the country. This was stated by the caretaker Minister of Finance, Georgi Klysurski, during the regular briefing of the Coordination Center to the Euro Mechanism in the building of the Council of Ministers in Sofia.

"As in many other Eurozone countries that introduced the single currency and did not allow such increases, we in Bulgaria will not allow them either," said Klysurski.

He pointed out that the introduction of the euro means faster economic growth and a faster increase in the well-being of citizens.

Klysurski stated that the caretaker government and the Ministry of Finance declare an unwavering commitment to the smooth adoption of the euro. He emphasized that the introduction of the single currency is a long process that happens not overnight or in one day, but over many months and gradually.

The Minister of Finance addressed the representatives of the executive branch, stating that he will expect the control actions to be effective and correct.

"We expect the checks to continue in full force not only in quantity but also in quality; the checks and fines should be precise where there is a problem, and not burdensome and unnecessary - where there is no problem," he said.

The caretaker Minister of Finance stressed that the Ministry of Finance and the Council of Ministers will be alongside the institutions in the cause of protecting trust in the euro.

Klysurski announced that from next week, all newly appointed ministers will join the coordination council to support the control work, which will continue even at higher speeds.

He added that the caretaker government will work tirelessly together with the institutions to make the process of adopting the euro successful.
