A man died in a serious accident near Burgas, the local police announced. The incident, which took the life of an elderly cyclist, happened on August 23 on the main road connecting Burgas and Varna. The accident caused a heightened police presence in the area while authorities collected testimonies and evidence.
According to official information provided by the police, the fatal collision occurred on the section of the road in the direction of the village of Ravda. A car driven by a 47-year-old man was involved. Under circumstances currently not yet clarified, the car hit a 77-year-old cyclist, who turned out to be a Russian citizen permanently residing in the city of Nesebar.
Tragic end despite the efforts of the Emergency Services
Immediately after the incident, a team from the "Emergency Services" arrived on the scene and immediately began resuscitation efforts. Despite the efforts of the medics, the injured cyclist died on the spot. His death occurred before the arrival of additional reinforcements that could have stabilized his condition.
The driver of the car was subjected to a standard check for the use of alcohol and narcotic substances. The results of the tests were negative, which excludes the use of intoxicating substances as a cause of the incident.
The body of the deceased was transported to the forensic medicine department at UMBAL - Burgas. An autopsy is to be performed to establish the exact cause of death and to provide additional details important for the investigation. A pre-trial investigation has been initiated on the case, which will clarify all the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident. The investigating authorities are expected to question witnesses and collect additional evidence to fully reconstruct the picture of the incident.
