The Parliament elected Karina Karaiivanova as Deputy Governor of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB), Head of the "Issuing" Directorate. 101 Members of Parliament voted in favor of her candidacy, 28 were "against", and 16 abstained.
Karina Karaiivanova took the oath before the National Assembly after her election. Her candidacy was presented in the plenary hall by the Governor of the BNB, Dimitar Radev, who emphasized her professional qualities and institutional experience.
Professional experience of Karina Karaiivanova:
- An established expert in the field of public finance and financial regulation, with over 20 years of experience.
- Master's degree in Finance and Banking.
- Seven years of representation on the Board of Directors of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
- Chairperson of the Financial Supervision Commission (2016).
- Deputy Minister of Finance (2012-2016).
- Lecturer at Sofia University.
Political comments:
- "Democratic Bulgaria" and "We Continue the Change" abstained, considering that the election should be made by the next parliament.
- "Revival" was against, criticizing the election as partisan.
- GERB-SDS, DPS-New Beginning, and ITN supported the candidacy.
