More than 2 tons of marijuana were burned today, September 24, 2026, at a thermal power plant — the way police got rid of drugs seized along the border with Turkey.
Over 80% of the marijuana was meant to reach the Turkish market but never made it. Most of it was caught at the Kapitan Andreevo and Lesovo border crossings, while the rest was seized further inside the country.
In total, 2.1 tons of marijuana are being burned, covering 28 criminal cases. Some of the cases have already been closed. For the rest, the court ordered most of the drugs destroyed right away while the trials are still going on. Only samples of the marijuana will be kept as evidence.
