Over 96 percent of households in Varna region have home internet, the Territorial Statistical Bureau “North-East” in the coastal city announced today. The survey on the use of information and communication technologies was conducted last year. The results show that compared to 2024, households with home internet have increased by 4.4 percent. For the period 2016-2025, the growth of families with access to the global network is 22.4 percent.
In this indicator, the region is in second place in the country. Sofia region (capital) is at the top with 98.7 percent, with an average value of 92.8 percent for the country.
Last year, 95.3 percent of people between 16 and 74 years old used the internet daily or at least once a week in the Varna region. Statistics show that men are more active users of the global network. 96 percent of them regularly surf. For women, this percentage is 94.6. Compared to the previous year, a growth of 9 percentage points in the regular use of the internet has been registered. In this indicator, Varna region is in first place in the country, along with the capital, while the average value for the country is 86.5 percent.
Significant are the differences in those who regularly use the internet according to their education, the Statistical Bureau adds. Among people with higher education, the percentage of those regularly using the internet is 99.4, while among those with primary or lower education it is around 78.
In 2025, just over 40 percent of the residents in the region have used the opportunity to contact administrations and public institutions electronically. In this indicator, the region is ahead of the average value for the country by more than 4 percentage points.
In 2025, 58.7 percent of the residents of the region preferred to shop online. This is 7.5 percentage points more compared to the average value for the country. In this indicator, Varna is in 5th place in the country.
