Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov and Minister of Education and Science Krasimir Valchev will participate in an official ceremony dedicated to the new class of scholars in the EXPLORER program. This initiative, realized by the Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT) at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski", aims to keep young talents in Bulgaria in the critical fields of informatics and mathematics.
The event, which is expected to gather key figures from academic and government circles, will be held in the Council of Ministers building at 9:00 a.m. today. An atmosphere of anticipation was felt on site, as media representatives and guests arrived for the event, which is seen as an important moment for Bulgarian education and scientific potential. The press service of the Council of Ministers officially confirmed the participation of the two ministers, emphasizing state support for such projects, which are of essential importance for the future of the country.
What is the EXPLORER program?
The EXPLORER program was developed in close cooperation with the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics (FMI) of Sofia University. Its main mission is to counteract _brain drain_ – a phenomenon that has affected Bulgaria for years, by providing the most prominent students with specific and significant opportunities for development in our country.
The program's scholars receive financial support of 2000 leva per month. This amount gives them the opportunity to focus entirely on their academic pursuits at FMI, free from financial worries. In addition, the scholarship allows them to get involved in innovative research projects within INSAIT, where they can gain valuable practical experience and contribute to scientific discoveries.
Who is attending the ceremony?
In addition to Prime Minister Zhelyazkov and Minister Valchev, other high-ranking officials will also attend the ceremony. Among them are:
- Rector of Sofia University Prof. Georgi Valchev
- Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics Prof. Maya Stoyanova
- Founder and Scientific Director of INSAIT, Prof. Martin Vechev
- Executive Director of the Institute, Eng. Borislav Petrov
The presence of so many representatives of the state government and the academic world demonstrates the seriousness with which the retention of young scientists and specialists in Bulgaria is being approached.
