A prestigious dance group from India will visit Bulgaria with a series of performances that will introduce the local audience to the classical art of Odissi. The tour covers four significant Bulgarian locations: Kyustendil, Sofia, Burgas, and Varna.

The event is a joint initiative of the Indian Embassy in Bulgaria, the East-West Indology Foundation, and local municipalities. The guest performance is made possible with the support of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations – a government institution dedicated to international cultural exchange.

The lead artist of the ensemble is Arupa Gayatri Panda – an exceptional dancer, considered a benchmark in contemporary Odissi performance. Her artistic journey began at the age of three under the mentorship of renowned gurus in the field.

Panda's professional development includes training at the prestigious dance academy of Orissa, where she refined her skills with leading pedagogues. Currently, she teaches at Sri Sri University in Odisha, passing on her knowledge to the next generation of dancers.

Her international career includes impressive performances on stages in the USA, Europe, and Asia. Panda has conducted master classes in various Indian states and is the lead actress in the television series "Sri Jagannath".

Odissi is defined as one of the most ancient and spiritually rich dance styles in Indian classical art. Its roots are deeply connected to the temple culture of the eastern Indian state of Odisha, where traditionally female dancers (maharis) performed ritual dances in honor of the deity Jagannath.

The character of the dance is distinguished by exceptional grace, lyricism, and deep symbolism. Performers recreate mythological narratives through extremely precise body movements, rich costumes, and specific ritual makeup, transporting viewers into the world of Hindu spirituality.

The upcoming performances are a unique opportunity for the Bulgarian audience to experience the authentic art of one of the world's most ancient dance traditions.
