Artificial intelligence is transforming the aviation industry, according to an expert

The aviation industry is undergoing a fundamental transformation, driven by advances in artificial intelligence. This was stated to BTA by Michael Bell, Senior Partner and Global Sector Leader "Aviation and Aerospace Industry" at the international consulting firm Korn Ferry. He emphasized that the changes are felt in both the revenues and the expenses of companies operating in the sector.

According to Bell, the potential of artificial intelligence for airlines is enormous. He explained that the possibilities are related to the collection and analysis of information about customers, which enables a more efficient offering of services and products. The expert noted that airlines are already generating significant revenue from the sale of products and services outside of airline tickets, which opens new doors for AI applications. As a specific example, Bell cited the possibility of personalized pricing and revenue management through AI, which would replace general prices with individual ones.

Regarding costs, both for airlines and for airports, Bell sees significant benefits from the use of artificial intelligence. He mentioned the optimization of processes, such as more efficient servicing of aircraft on the ground, the use of robotic systems for the delivery of goods and services at the airport, as well as the improvement of passenger processing. Bell emphasized that improving these processes leads to faster and safer passage through airports, which in turn contributes to the comfort of passengers and increases their expenses during their stay. Obviously, airports are interested in such improvements.

Michael Bell, known as a "talent hunter" in the aviation industry, arrived in Bulgaria to participate in the Future of Work Summit 2025 forum, organized by "Capital" newspaper. The guest was invited by Jesus Caballero, CEO of SOF Connect – the operator of "Vasil Levski" Airport – Sofia.

In response to the question of what skills will be most valuable for aviation professionals in the coming decades, Bell pointed to technological literacy as key. He emphasized that the focus is no longer only on traditional mechanics, but on the effective maintenance of aircraft with the help of modern technologies.

In the corridors of the conference center, where the forum was held, there was a lively atmosphere. The air was filled with anticipation. It was clear that those present were interested in the future of work and the challenges it poses.

Bell also noted the importance of customer orientation. According to him, airlines should focus on selling a variety of products and services to increase their revenues. The expert stressed that industry leaders are looking for employees who understand the needs of customers and can offer them the right products.

Regarding Bulgaria, Bell expressed optimism for the future of the aviation sector. He mentioned the potential for building a strong regional hub, thanks to the development plans of Sofia Airport and the existing infrastructure. Bell noted that the country seems relatively undiscovered and emphasized his impressions of technological investments and investments in human capital. He also noted that the country already has a strong presence of international companies, such as Lufthansa Technik, which testifies to the presence of a qualified workforce.

On the streets of the city, in front of lively cafes, one could feel the thrill of new opportunities. Talks about the future of technology and its impact on the industry were everywhere.

Bell concluded with a passionate recommendation to young people who are planning a career in aviation. According to him, aviation is a passion that should be pursued. He shared his personal experience, according to which it is the perfect "marriage" between work and hobby.
