Health authorities' data show a rise in the number of people infected with influenza and acute respiratory viruses. In Varna, a flu epidemic is expected to be declared from January 14th, while Burgas is in a pre-epidemic situation.

The number of infected people in Burgas is over 170 per 100,000 people.

Dr. Petko Zhelyazkov, representative of the Union of General Practitioners in Burgas, explains that a new mutated variant of the influenza virus - AH3N2 - dominates in Bulgaria. It spreads faster due to its altered genetic structure.

The lack of rapid flu tests is cited as a problem.

Doctors remind of the symptoms: high fever, fatigue, headache, and chills. Rest at home and consultation with a doctor are recommended.

Risk groups are young children, adolescents up to 18 years old, and people over 65 years old with chronic illnesses. Dr. Zhelyazkov notes that children are most often ill.
