A wave of civic anger swept the country on March 29, 2025, when hundreds of Bulgarians occupied the streets in Sofia, Pazardzhik, Blagoevgrad, and other cities. The demonstrators emphatically expressed their indignation against brutal crimes in which various domestic animals became victims of extremely cruel attacks.

Scandalous cases, spread online for cryptocurrency payment, provoked mass protests. Civil society demands immediate legislative changes, including the creation of a specialized body - animal police, to investigate such crimes.

Professional organizations such as the Bulgarian Veterinary Union and international animal protectors categorically condemned the committed acts. They requested a drastic tightening of criminal liability, proposing the introduction of provisions providing for imprisonment up to ten years and financial sanctions up to 20,000 leva.

The large-scale public reaction clearly demonstrates intolerance towards animal violence and a strong desire for systemic changes in Bulgaria's legal framework.
