Border police found 54.67 kg of cannabis hidden in a lorry that entered Bulgaria from Romania at the Vidin–Calafat crossing. Anton Zlatanov, head of the Border Police, said on Facebook that the driver has been detained.
The drugs were in a purpose-built double wall behind the driver's cab. Packs of dry, grass-like material inside tested positive for cannabis in a field test.
"We continue our blows against drug smuggling!" Zlatanov wrote. He said tighter compensatory checks at the borders are giving steady results.
Pre-trial proceedings have begun.
It is the latest find of drugs in vehicles with specially made hiding places at border crossings.
