The National Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria hosted its largest event – the Annual Meeting of Local Authorities. The forum, which took place in the picturesque resort complex "Albena" from October 12 to 14, 2025, brought together hundreds of representatives from various fields, united by the common goal – improving the management and development of the municipalities.
Every year in October, this meeting is a key moment for the exchange of experience and ideas. The event attracts over 800 participants from a number of important institutions and organizations. Among them are representatives of local and central government, business, the academic community, partner organizations, as well as foreign guests. They all play an important role in ensuring better management, transformation and development of Bulgarian municipalities.
The Mayor of Pomorie Municipality, Ivan Aleksiev, was an active participant in the discussion panel dedicated to the reform in waste management. He presented an innovative project, funded by the LIFE Programme of the European Union. The project, entitled "Holistic Approach to Waste Management in the Transition to a Circular Economy", attracted significant attention. The presented goals, stages and achieved results in Pomorie, including the introduction of a new system for paying for the household waste service based on quantity, provoked lively discussions and great interest among those present.
At a specially designated stand within the framework of the "Municipal EXPO" exhibition, accompanying the meeting, experts from the project team and partners demonstrated key activities and achieved results. Visitors had the opportunity to get acquainted with the innovations and good practices up close. In the lively atmosphere, opportunities for future cooperation and the development of new initiatives were discussed. The stand was also visited by the members of the Management Board of the Association of Municipalities, headed by the chairman and mayor of Veliko Tarnovo Municipality, Daniel Panov.
"Our participation in Municipal EXPO - 2025 is an excellent opportunity to share the accumulated experience and exchange ideas with other municipalities and experts. The project under the LIFE program is only part of our long-term strategy for caring for nature and the environment", stressed Mayor Ivan Aleksiev.
Pomorie Municipality implements the project in close partnership with Club "Economics 2000", "Theoremus" Ltd., "Ecobulpack Bulgaria" AD and the environmental organization Zero Waste Italy.
